Flock Raises More Money: Browser Wars Back?
With Firefox 3 releasing its Beta Release Candidate 1, we’re starting to see the makings of some real browser wars heating up again. Flock has just raised $15 million in a Series D (yes D, as in DOG) round bringing their total to $28 million..
I’ve personally used Flock but found that it was too slow on my Macbook Air, and had to since switch to Firefox, I definitely enjoyed the convenience of being able to post directly to my blog without having to head to Wordpress. Also, their FriendFeed-like sidebar is a nice feature as well. But $28 million into a browser? Come on- what is the monetization strategy for this thing?
As much as I advocated for Microsoft to purchase some startups and get a new opportunity at exciting revenue streams, purchasing Flock would just be a huge waste.
